01

SDS structure

A Safety Data Sheet is organized into 16 sections. The first sections identify the product, recommended research use, restrictions, available hazard information and composition details.

Later sections cover first-aid context, fire-fighting information, accidental release considerations, handling and storage, exposure controls, physical and chemical properties, stability, disposal, transport and regulatory information.

02

Interpreting unavailable data

Research materials may have limited public hazard, toxicology, transport or regulatory data. SDS language such as no data available or not established means the value has not been established in the record; it does not prove the material is non-hazardous.

03

Handling and storage references

Use the SDS alongside the product page, label and lot documentation. Qualified personnel should apply appropriate laboratory controls and comply with the requirements of their institution and jurisdiction.
